Nico Hulkenberg has admitted he felt the dynamics had changed around the Hungarian Grand Prix, combined with the rumours of Esteban Ocon's imminent arrival signalled the end of his spell at Renault.

The worst kept secret in Formula 1 was made official on Thursday as Ocon arrives at Renault on a multi-year deal on a day where Valtteri Bottas' new contract with Mercedes was confirmed. The Frenchman will partner Daniel Ricciardo from 2020.

With the announcement, it means Hulkenberg, who has raced for Renault since they returned to F1 in 2016, is without a seat. The German has been linked with a move to Haas with both of their drivers under fire and a potential drive with Red Bull has also been touted.

Hulkenberg admits he wasn't completely surprised citing a change in dynamics at the Hungarian Grand Prix.

“The week after Hungary, I noticed that the dynamics had changed, but the team and management have always been transparent and honest," Hulkenberg told journalists in Spa.

"No games were played and the communication was always straightforward."

The German will hope to prove his worth to potential suitors when the racing gets back underway in Belgium this weekend.
