After much speculation, it has been confirmed that the Spanish Grand Prix will remain on the calendar for 2020. The Circuit de Barcelona Catalonia has been a part of Formula 1 for a number of seasons with the first event being held in 1951. Many believed that a deal would be unable to be reached, but it has been done and the circuit will remain part of the championship for 2020.

Chase Carey has said in an official press release, "We are pleased to confirm that the Spanish Grand Prix will be on the calendar of the 2020 FIA Formula 1 World Championship.

"The decision to continue to stage a round of the pinnacle of motorsport in Spain, a country with great motor-racing tradition, is part of our strategy of maintaining Formula 1's European roots, whilst also expanding the championship into new territories."

The track is also used for winter testing and will likely be used again for the testing ahead of the 2020 season. It will be the 50th year the circuit has been used in Formula 1 and the 13th consecutive.

The Spanish Grand Prix always sees a large number of fans attend and provides a real economic boost for the local area.

Formula 1 is trying to expand its brand but is also looking to stay close to the countries and circuits that have been successful in the past as not to make too many changes too suddenly.
