Haas F1 team principal Guenther Steiner has revealed that the team will be using the upgraded same specification car used in Hockenheim for both drivers after running two different cars for three races.

Since the British Grand Prix Haas had been testing their aerodynamics car against car to figure out why they quick on Saturdays but were lacking in race pace on Sundays with Romain Grosjean using the first spec used in Melbourne while Kevin Magnussen ran in the updated version.

But Steiner has now opted to have both drivers in the latest updated car used at Spa whilst looking to learn more about it.

The Austrian told GrandPrix247: “For Spa we will go with the upgraded car, which we ran at Hockenheim.

“We’ve learned quite a bit out of it and tried to improve the car by changing some of the components.

“Both cars will be the same spec, and hopefully we can still learn more about it.”

Now that the decision has been made as to which car will be used Haas are already turning their attention to 2020, only bringing in small upgrade for their 2019 car for the rest of the year.

“The focus has already switched, partly, to the 2020 car,” he added.

“We need to see what we can come up with in the wind tunnel, with the small developments we do there for the 2019 car, and if we bring any upgrade kits. We don’t know yet.”

Haas are currently ninth in the constructor’s championship but only 17 points adrift of fifth placed Toro Rosso, something that the Austrian believes can be made up but due to difficult races isn’t being too optimistic.

“Everything is possible, but it is difficult as our car doesn’t perform well in races, and that’s where you score the points,” Steiner added.

“Nevertheless, we will be trying hard to pick up whatever we can. Hopefully, we can get a few more results, and then we’ll see how we end up in the standings.”
