Liberty Media's Chase Carey is keen to promote the sustainability of Formula 1. He is launching a new PR campaign which is aimed to promote the developments the sport has created. He confirms Formula 1 is working with oil companies to create a synthetic fuel.

According to Carey, the sport doesn't get enough recognition when it comes to the progressive role it plays in the field of sustainability. "One of our priorities, and we are going to do more in the fall, is really an untold story in F1. It's the strides that we've made to date in terms of sustainability," Carey told Motorsport.com.

"The hybrid engine that was launched a few years ago was an incredible step forward in terms of fuel efficiency while retaining power.  And we are working aggressively on things like synthetic fuels, working with the oil industry as a whole on synthetic fuels, biofuels, hydrogen fuels. And I think you'll see between now and year-end the sustainability issue becoming much more front and centre."

It remains to be seen whether it will lead to anything good. A few months ago, David Tsurusaki told GPBlog the fuel consumption by the Formula 1 cars is, according to him, in fact, nothing compared to the amount of fuel needed to get from circuit to circuit.
