Schumacher remains grounded after first Formula 2 victory

Mick Schumacher won his first-ever Formula 2 race during the Hungarian Grand Prix weekend. The son of seven-time Formula 1 world champion hadn't set the series alight in the opening rounds of the season but has now found his feet after the sprint race victory.

Despite taking the monkey off his back, Schumacher remained grounded and is desperate to keep on improving as the season draws to a conclusion after the summer break.

“The first victory in the F2 is, of course, great, but there is still plenty of room for improvement in myself. Whether I will move on to F1 next year, in two years or in three years: I have no idea. What I do know is that I will continue to do my utmost in Formula 2 to learn as much as possible. When I get the opportunity to take the step, I will be ready and I am at ease within the team where I end up," Schumacher said.

“The first win has certainly been the hardest, but it gives you more confidence. Confidence in the following rounds of the championship. The end of the season is almost insight and I think this was a good time to take the P1. Certainly after all the pressure on us in the season so far."

“The speed was always good, but the corresponding points were disappointing. I am talking about the Red Bull Ring and Silverstone. Great speed, but the real use of it did not work. So yes, I am happy with the victory, but certainly also with the points!"
