Leclerc: "I’ve done a lot bigger mistakes during the season"

Charles Leclerc believes he has made bigger mistakes than the one he made at the German Grand Prix which led to him crashing out of the race.

Leclerc was on course to be leading the race at the Hockenheimring before he spun out at turn 16 and he crashed into a barrier bringing an end to his race. It was the first time since the Monaco Grand Prix that Leclerc has failed to finish on the podium having tallied up four consecutive podiums. The Monegasque also crashed out of the race in Monte Carlo.

Leclerc accepted responsibility for his crash in Germany but didn't feel it was the biggest mistake he's made this season.

“I’m disappointed with myself,” Leclerc said as quoted by GrandPrix247.

“It wasn’t a huge mistake. It’s a small mistake and I’ve done a lot bigger mistakes during the season.

“It doesn’t make anything better for my mistake, but, first of all, I think the asphalt in the last two corners – it’s just unacceptable that we have that on a F1 track when it’s wet.

"I’m completely at fault today and it’s a huge shame. I’m very sorry for the fans and the team."
