How did we score the drivers at the German Grand Prix? (Top 10)

It doesn't get much more chaotic than that! Seven drivers crashing out, Max Verstappen winning his second race in three and the World Championship leader, not quite himself. It had it all! But this is how we scored the drivers for their performances at the Hockenheimring.

Max Verstappen - 9.5

Max Verstappen is on fire, another race win and he is slowly closing the gap on Valtteri Bottas in second. After a poor start the Dutchman stayed composed as those around him dropped like flies. However, even he had a spin in treacherous conditions but regrouped and stormed to his second win of the season!

Sebastian Vettel - 9

What a great showing from Sebastian Vettel from last on the grid. Aided by the numerous retirements and penalties, he as well drove near flawlessly to put himself in a position to make his move for a podium place in the closing stages. A great move on Carlos Sainz before picking off Lance Stroll and Daniil Kvyat got Seb a well-deserved P2. Just a shame his qualifying disaster set him back.

Daniil Kvyat - 8.5

If you don't buy a ticket you won't win the raffle. And that's exactly what Kvyat did. Much like Vettel he put himself in a position to get on the podium with a combination of some smart driving and the right strategy. He was in the right place at the right time in one of the most unpredictable races you are likely to see. A first podium since China in 2016 for the Torpedo.

Lance Stroll - 8

It was a good weekend for Lance Stroll. He made it out of Q1 for the first time in a long time and then to finish fourth, just outside the podiums was a great race for him and SportPesa Racing Point. Whilst Sergio Perez crashed out early in the race Stroll once again proved his ability in the rain to take P4.

Carlos Sainz - 8

Carlos Sainz has really proved himself this season and he continued to do so at the Hockenheimring. McLaren chose against putting Sainz on the slick tyres which proved decisive as the likes of Stroll and Kvyat took the gamble. Nonetheless, P5 in chaotic circumstances was mightily impressive and once again strengthened McLaren's grip on fourth.

Alex Albon - 9

A very impressive drive from the Toro Rosso driver. He was only denied a higher finish than his teammate because of the team tactics and for a first wet Grand Prix, he showed great composure. He was battling with Lewis Hamilton at one point and for his gutsy drive, making up 10 places from his starting position, he earned a sixth-place finish, his best result in the pinnacle of motorsport. What a day for Toro Rosso!

Romain Grosjean - 7

Some much-needed points for Haas and Romain Grosjean. However, another coming together with his teammate doesn't help his cause. Nonetheless, with everything going on at Haas the Frenchman would have bitten your hand off for some points.

Kevin Magnussen - 7.5

More points for Haas and Kevin Magnussen will be very grateful having not scored any points since the Spanish Grand Prix when he came over the line in seventh. However, it just papers over the cracks at Haas with the Rich Energy fiasco still up in the air and the future of their drivers far from certain. 

Lewis Hamilton - 4

A race to forget for Hamilton. After qualifying on pole it looked like he'd dominate again, but the tricky conditions seemed to get the better of him and he spun out twice and faced a penalty for failing to go around the bollard at the pit entry after the first of those crashes. A 50-second pit stop compounded his misery and he only just sneaked in the points thanks to the penalties for both Alfa Romeo cars.

Robert Kubica - 10

Finally... Williams are on the board and it is Robert Kubica who has their first point of the season. After finishing 12th, Kubica was lucky enough to be the tenth and final point scorer after Kimi Raikkonen and Antonio Giovinazzi were given penalties. Spare a thought for George Russell though who has finished above the Pole at all but two races this season and may still finish below his teammate.
