German Grand Prix winner Max Verstappen was glad he managed to stay "out of trouble" for the duration of the race, as the Dutchman did spin out once but had a clean race otherwise for his seventh victory in F1.

The Dutchman started from P2 but had another bad start, as he did in Austria when he started on the front row.

"I just had no grip, but I think everyone on the right side had little grip for some reason," he told Dutch television outlet Ziggo Sport.

"In the end, it didn't matter that much, luckily. It was all about making the right calls and staying out of trouble."

Halfway through the race, when the track was drying up, Verstappen pitted for slicks, but he bolted on the medium tyre rather than the softs. He spun out after a lap as he had next to no grip.

"That ended well too, thankfully. Those red tyres have way more grip, of course, especially when the track is still that slippery. Luckily it started raining again and we went back to the inters."

When he took the lead after a Safety Car, it was all about keeping his cool.

"Once I took the lead I could just drive away. Before that, my problem was that I was stuck behind Bottas. [When I took the lead] I could drive safely and I didn't have to push that much. Eventually, it all ended well. I stayed out of trouble. Just that one spin, but I had it under control."
