Horner: Silverstone gave Red Bull a confidence boost for German Grand Prix

Christian Horners says everyone in his Red Bull team has experienced a confidence boost after a strong performance in the British Grand Prix. Both Max Verstappen and Pierre Gasly were able to race the two Ferrari cars.

Red Bull is now just 52 points shy of their Italian rivals ahead of the final two races before the summer break. After a positive June and July, which includes Verstappen's victory in Austria, they could well aim to finish ahead of Ferrari in the Formula 1 world championship.

Horner was impressed with how the RB15 could follow the Ferrari's through the power sections around Silverstone. And that's something which they might be able to do more of with the next Honda engine upgrade.

"We have confidence going to Hockenheim given the performance [at Silverstone]," Horner commented.

"To be this close to Mercedes around that type of track that we know is power-sensitive, and to be able to follow the Ferraris as close as we were able to through Maggotts, Becketts and Copse, Max was able to take some serious momentum behind the Ferraris there, and that is usually the sign of a pretty decent car."

"The car behaved very well at [Silverstone] and high speed/low speed has been competitive. For Max to have been as close to the pole time as he was even without the [throttle] hesitations, maybe he would have got even closer. And then in the race, we didn't see his true pace because he spent it stuck behind a Ferrari for 99% of it."
