Haas F1 has confirmed it will not design its 2020 Formula 1 car to fit the tyres designed by Pirelli; despite its constant struggles this season.

Haas finished fifth in the constructors' championship in 2018 after only entering Formula One back in 2016, but this season they sit only above Williams in the standings after a dismal campaign thus far - summed up by its double-DNF in Great Britain last time out.

The car's speed is usually very good and has been fourth-fastest on the grid at numerous times this season, but its race-pace has been the element that has let them down the most.

The American team has largely struggled with getting this season's specification of tyres to work on its car, but this is something they will not do differently even next season.

"We cannot make the car to fit the tyres," Haas boss Guenther Steiner said to Autosport. "Then the tyre changes next year and you're back to square one."

Asked how much of a problem the lack of solution for the tyre issues this season has been, Steiner replied: "We got the promise from Pirelli that next year's tyres will have a wider window. That is what they are working to, that's what they are committed to. Hopefully that works.

"What you learn this year will help next year as well. I don't know if it will be ultimately conclusive to make it work all of the time. We will have a better understanding at the end of the year for next year."
