The Championship standings don't make great reading for Williams but George Russell has explained the team's long term aims and believes the team are setting the foundations for the future.

Williams entered the 2019 season with a new lineup of Robert Kubica and George Russell after finishing last in the Constructors' standings last season. However, their pair this season have had an even worse time and are yet to score a single point with Russell's P14 at Silverstone their best result of the season.

Despite results gradually improving this season things still aren't great but Russell revealed that Williams have ditched short term progress in to lay the foundations for the future.

“Everyone knows what our performance is at the moment, but it’s a long term project," Russell told Auto Hebdo.

"We could have done several things in the short term to obtain immediate gains but the team has an overall vision that goes much further."

Russell also spoke about how grateful he was to have the opportunity to race in the pinnacle of motorsport, adding: “I am paid to do the job I dreamed of as a child. I know we are going through a difficult time but there is light at the end of the tunnel. My time will come.”
