The Mercedes car revealed one of its major weaknesses during the Austrian Grand Prix. A heatwave blasted through Europe and the Silver Arrows performance dipped. Lewis Hamilton and Valtteri Bottas both experienced cooling problems. Problems the team will have to solve going into the German Grand Prix as forecasters predict similar temperatures to Austria.

The Formula 1 world championship leaders are celebrating 125 years of motorsport this week at their home Grand Prix, but, as always, on-track performance remains their main priority. At the top of his list, is the high temperatures.

"While there is much happening off track, our primary focus remains our on-track performance. The weather forecast predicts high temperatures, which were extremely challenging for us in Austria, so we must stay vigilant," Wolff explained.

"Like Spielberg, Hockenheim is also a relatively short circuit, which will close the gaps between different teams. We will stay humble and work hard to achieve the best possible result."

Mercedes will bring a new chassis to the German Grand Prix which they hope will combat the high temperatures. The chassis is rumoured to be lighter, which should help the German team with their power to weight ratio.
