It was already expected to be a sell-out at the return of the Dutch Grand Prix, but organisers are having to look into expanding the event with so many Dutch fans wanting a glimpse of Max Verstappen at Zandvoort.

The Dutch Grand Prix was confirmed to return to the calendar for the 2020 season in May and Circuit Zandvoort was announced to host Max Verstappen's home race. Zandvoort was the location of the original Dutch Grand Prix between 1948 and 1985 as well as hosting the European Grand Prix on two occasions.

With flocks of Dutch fans expected to be there to witness Max Verstappen's first home race, organisers are looking at expanding the event to accommodate the huge numbers of fans.

"We knew it was popular, but more than a million (requests) is insane," race boss Jan Lammers told The Hart van Nederland programme.

"We could have sold out six times for the Sunday.

"There are 105,000 spectators per day but we are looking into whether this can be expanded. But it must remain pleasant for all the visitors."
