Vasseur isn't putting pressure on Antonio Giovinazzi despite single point

Antonio Giovinazzi has scored just one point during the first half of the 2019 Formula 1 season. But Alfa Romeo boss Frederic Vasseur says the team aren't putting any pressure on the Italian after strong performances in qualifying.

Results have improved for Giovinazzi as he becomes accustomed to life in Formula 1. However, last time out during the British Grand Prix, Giovinazzi spun and beached the car in the gravel trap.

He lines up against Kimi Raikkonen, the 2007 Formula 1 world champion. The most experienced driver on the grid has scored 24 more points than his teammate, not good reading for Giovinazzi. But Vasseur is pleased with the start his young driver has made, particularly on Saturdays.

“I think he’s doing a strong job in quali. He’s matching Kimi on Saturdays now, we just have to calm down the situation. I’m not too worried, because he’s doing the job. He scored a point in Austria, he was in a good dynamic at Silverstone, he was again in front of Kimi," Vasseur told Motorsport.com.

"Honestly he’s not under pressure, from the team or anyone else. I will be patient."
