Sergio Perez believes SportPesa Racing Point were capable of scoring points at the British Grand Prix, but ultimately struggled all weekend and left with no points.

In front of the crowd at Silverstone Sergio Perez and Lance Stroll had a poor qualifying, starting 15th and 18th respectively. The race didn't offer much better fortunes for them as Perez finished last of the drivers that finished and Stroll came 13th. It meant they went without points again and have now not scored since the Canadian Grand Prix.

Despite being below par again Perez is adamant there was potential for the team to place well in Northamptonshire.

“We were very unlucky,” said Pérez as quoted by The Chequered Flag.

“The first stint was very strong – I was managing my race, looking after the tyres and we were on course to score some points.

“Then, the safety car came out just after I had pitted and that’s what ruined my race.

"During the safety car period, I also had an issue with my steering wheel, which affected the brake balance and meant it was too far forward.

“I cannot believe the tough luck we had. It’s so disappointing because we deserved a big result in our home race and we had the speed in the car to score points.”
