Chase Carey has spoken about the news that Formula 1 will be travelling to Australia until at least 2025, stating the event has been a "resounding success".

The race at Albert Park has been on the calendar since 1996 and has been the staple first race of the season since then, only missing out on being the first race in 2006 and 2010. This season the race was won by Valtteri Bottas after he overtook his teammate Lewis Hamilton.

On Thursday, F1 confirmed the contract for the Australian Grand Prix had been extended. Speaking after one of the classic races on the calendar was confirmed until at least 2025, Carey looked forward to making the race more exciting.

“We are pleased to have renewed our partnership with the city of Melbourne, which will now host the Formula 1 Australian Grand Prix until at least 2025," Carey said on the F1 website.

"The decision to extend the current relationship for a further two years stems from the fact this event has proved to be a resounding success for the capital of Victoria, for Australia and indeed around the world, proving immensely popular with fans and those who work in Formula 1.

"Working along with our partner, the Australian Grand Prix Corporation, we plan to make the Australian Grand Prix even more exciting and spectacular, as a sporting event and as a form of entertainment."
