Carlos Sainz "struggling with the track's new surface"

McLaren had a mixed result during qualifying with Lando Norris finishing the session in 8th and teammate Carlos Sainz down in 13th. The Spaniard couldn't explain why his car was losing grip but will hope to fix the issue in time for the race tomorrow.

"We lost half a second from Q1 to Q2 and it's very difficult to explain why," Sainz said to the Official F1 Website after Qualifying. "To lose half a second during qualifying is very hard to explain. I haven't been trusting the cars rear end and I've been struggling with the track's new surface.

"I would say Q1 is positive but as the sessions went on it just got worse and worse."

"I don't know! Every new lap I had less grip and the rear just wouldn't stick. It's difficult to explain but hopefully, we will find an explanation."

Renault will hope that this problem reoccurs for McLaren tomorrow as the midfield battle heats up and the two teams challenge each other for places in the points.
