Pirelli Motorsport boss Mario Isola believes the Formula 1 teams will go into the weekend with a "few unknowns" with the Silverstone circuit being driven on for the first time since the work has been done.

There were several complaints from drivers last season, commenting on the amount of potholes/bumps on the circuit. The Silverstone staff have now decided to take action on this and give the track a new flooring.

Pirelli are going with its three hardest tyre compounds for the British Grand Prix weekend - with C1 acting as hard, the C2 a medium and the C3 will be the soft compound.

Isola believes with the resurfacing, the teams could be even quicker this season: "The new asphalt has only been laid very recently, so it's going to be interesting to see what the ffect of this will be in competition. It could make a circuit that is already fast, even faster.

"We're nominating effectively the same compound selection as we did last year, which should be well-suited to cornering demands that are among the highest of the year, along with places like Spa and Suzuka.

"With the new asphalt and famously variable British weather, there will definitely be a few unknowns heading into this year's Silverstone race. This makes the excercise of data-gathering in free practice even more important than usual, in order to come up with the best strategy."
