Pierre Gasly has said that he is ‘excited’ to race at Silverstone ahead of the British Grand Prix to hope for a better result than previous races.

Gasly has endured a poor run of form in his Red Bull the past few races and struggled to match the results of teammate Max Verstappen, sitting 83 points behind him in sixth in the World Championship.

After Daniel Ricciardo’s departure from Red Bull at the end of last season, the Frenchman was promoted from Toro Rosso to drive alongside Verstappen, but his position has come under pressure with a string of poor results the past few races.

But in the build-up to Silverstone Gsaly is looking forward to a return here where he won in GP2.

Gasly said: “I’m excited to go racing on a track like Silverstone.

“It’s one of my favourites because you have so many high-speed corners, and especially with a Formula 1 car, you really feel the downforce and grip there.

“It’s a really nice and flowing track, and also its history in the sport makes it quite a meaningful place for me.

“I had a GP2 victory at Silverstone just after a road car accident with my family on the way to the track, so it’s a special weekend that I always remember and I’m really happy to return this year with Red Bull.

“It’s usually a pretty cool atmosphere with all the British fans coming out to support. I remember last year was my first British Grand Prix in F1 and I was impressed with the amount of people attending over the weekend.”

The Frenchman has been working hard with his team since Austria, where he finished seventh having been only just behind winner Verstappen at one point, to look for areas of improvement.

“Following Austria, we’re working and focusing on every detail and we will try to put all the pieces together to extract and deliver a better result this weekend,” he added.

“I’m excited to get back out there and go racing.”
