Red Bull say Gasly needs mental "Control Alt Delete" after struggles

Aston Martin Red Bull Racing team principal Christian Horner has continued to back his driver Pierre Gasly after another frustrating performance from the Frenchman, saying the 23-year-old just needs a "Control Alt Delete" to start fresh from this moment onwards.

After struggling in the first few races for his new team, Gasly seemingly began to find his feet at Red Bull, putting in good performances on tracks like Monaco, where he finished fifth and got the extra point for the fastest lap as well.

However, in recent races the struggles have come back, with a P10 in his native France followed by an unconvincing P7 in Austria. In the latter, Gasly even got lapped by teammate Max Verstappen, who dropped behind Gasly at the start but went on to win the race with a sensational comeback.

"Piere’s having a tough time at the moment,” Horner conceded to RaceFans.net, although the Brit also signalled the team is still very much behind him.

“We’re doing our very best to support him.

“I think he just needs a reset. We know what he is capable of. I think we just somehow have got to go ‘Control Alt Delete’ in his head and start again.”

Horner does realise that sharing the garage with a driver of Verstappen's calibre does add that extra bit of pressure, as the Dutchman extracts every millisecond of performance out of the RB15 on a weekly basis.

"He’s a quick driver. The problem he’s got is obviously Max is delivering every week and that puts more pressure obviously on him to performance.

“But we’re sticking by him, we still believe in him and we’ll give him all the support that we can to try and nurture the talent that we know he has.

"He’s our driver, we’re going to work with him, we’re going to try to obviously get the best out of him.”
