Christian Horner believes Charles Leclerc had to allow Max Verstappen through at turn three as the pair went wheel to wheel on lap 69 of the Austrian Grand Prix.

Max Verstappen was the last person to beat Mercedes at Mexico in 2018, and he did it again to end Mercedes' dominance as he performed a series of stunning overtakes to win the Austrian Grand Prix. He overtook Sebastian Vettel, Valtteri Bottas before hunting down Charles Leclerc.

The drama occurred on lap 69 as Verstappen ate into Leclerc's lead before diving down the inside of the Monegasque at turn three which meant he was forced wide. To the pleasure of the Dutch fans, Verstappen made it stick and he won his first race of the season.

Red Bull principal, Horner is confident the move was fair game and that Leclerc had to give up the corner.

"He's got the opportunity as he's fully up the inside and alongside. At that point, he can't just get out of the way," Horner told Sky Sports F1.

"Leclerc has to concede the corner.

"Leclerc obviously comes back at him aggressively, but what are you supposed to do?"
