Mercedes team boss Toto Wolff has paid tribute to his team after Mercedes took yet another one-two victory at the French Grand Prix.

Lewis Hamilton made it six wins in eight races in 2019 to extend his championship lead over teammate Valtteri Bottas, who finished P2 once more.

The team's pace throughout the weekend left its rivals gasping, with the closest challenger in the form of Charles Leclerc's Ferrari a massive 0.6s down on Hamilton's pole time.

Speaking after the race, Wolff admitted the team had performed at the peak of its powers, adding that it was the "best race of the season" for Mercedes-Benz.

“I am very happy with the team. Both the chassis and the engine function excellent and Lewis was also very good today," Wolff told Sky Sports F1.

"In that regard, this was our best race of the season. The tracks play a fundamental role. You can see we had a pretty good race in Montreal, and Paul Ricard has all the ingredients.

"It's a fantastic place in the south of France, it doesn't go any more glamorous. Maybe we just need to open up the straight and allow more slip-streaming.”

The Austrian added that the team couldn't get complacent however even though the gap in both championships continued to grow.

“There are still 13 races to go, we can earn 44 points in every race, in total there are 576 points to earn so 140 is simply not enough."
