Our driver ratings for the French Grand Prix!

Lewis Hamilton stormed to victory at the French Grand Prix, extending his and Mercedes' lead at the top of the standings. But how did he score? How did McLaren rank after an impressive weekend? And how did the Scuderia score this time around? Here are our French Grand Prix ratings!

Lewis Hamilton - 10

Utterly dominant, simply fantastic and truly brilliant all weekend. You run out of superlatives for Hamilton who stormed to a sixth win of the season with a fantastic performance in France. Leading every lap he never looked in danger, even if he says otherwise. A big fat 10!

Valtteri Bottas - 8.5

A weird one for Bottas at the French Grand Prix. He only just hung on to second place after a late charge from Charles Leclerc but for large periods of the race looked untroubled. Never threatened Hamilton's place at the top of the podium, but nonetheless, P2 is very respectable.

Charles Leclerc - 9

Quietly impressive from Charles Leclerc. He managed to get away cleanly and put the Mercedes under pressure until they pulled away. He was consistent throughout and that benefitted him at the end as he pressured Bottas, but it wasn't to be. Finishing ahead of his teammate is another bonus for the Monegasque.

Max Verstappen - 8

Max continues to get the absolute most out of the Honda Red Bull and he showed his teammate how it is done. It wasn't easy for him and was never quick enough to keep up with the front runners but he maintains his run of never finishing lower than where he started this season.

Sebastian Vettel - 7.5

Qualifying really set the German back this weekend else he could've been challenging on the podium. P5 was about the best he could've achieved given how much quicker Mercedes have been and how reliable Verstappen has been.

Carlos Sainz - 8.5

A mightily impressive weekend for McLaren was rounded off with P6 for Carlos Sainz. Sainz overtook his teammate early in the race and had a look at Verstappen but he managed his race brilliantly to come home in his joint best finish of the season.

Kimi Raikkonen - 8

Kimi went under the radar at Paul Ricard to benefit from Daniel Ricciardo's penalties to come home in P7. A welcome return to the points for the Finn who has struggled of late.

Nico Hulkenberg - 7.5

Also a beneficiary of his teammate's penalties, Hulkenberg had a quiet race up until the final lap, and he kept in touch to seize his chance when Norris struggled. Another promising result for him as Renault continue to grow into the season.

Lando Norris - 9

Not often does a driver who finishes P10 (promoted to ninth) get such a high score but it was a very good performance all weekend from Lando Norris. Qualified ahead of his teammate and fought off Daniel Ricciardo and hydraulic issues for so long, a lot of positives for the Brit who continues to develop impressively at McLaren.

Pierre Gasly - 6

Gasly has looked out of sorts all weekend and there wasn't really a worse occasion for him to do so. In front of his home fans for the first time in a Red Bull Gasly didn't seem to have any pace at all. Whereas Max gets the most out of the Red Bull Gasly seems to be doing the opposite.

Daniel Ricciardo - 7

It all looked rosy as Ricciardo crossed the line, but a couple of hours later it certainly wasn't. Two-time penalties from the final lap have cost the Honey Badger some points after he piled the pressure on Norris on the final lap. The penalties can be debated but it was still a reasonable performance from the Australian.

Sergio Perez - 7

After running off the track and being investigated on the opening lap we didn't hear much again from Sergio Perez. Made two places but will be disappointed to leave empty-handed.

Lance Stroll - 7.5

Another race, another occasion where Stroll rose through the field following a tough qualifying. The Canadian finished 13th after a very long opening stint to recover from yet another Q1 exit. 

Daniil Kvyat - 7

Plum last at one point Kvyat recovered to finish in 14th and admitted the team got the most out of the situation. A positive to take will be that he beat his teammate after a little battle and made a sharp move on Romain Grosjean, but a quiet race for the Russian.

Alexander Albon - 6.5

Not much to say about Alex Albon who was hampered from lap one after he ran wide and got boxed in. Struggled to make any progress on the field with everyone in a "DRS train" as he described it. Will be hoping for a better result in Austria.

Antonio Giovinazzi - 6

After out-qualifying his teammate and making it to Q3 on Sunday it appeared Giovinazzi was making progress but in the end getting to Q3 cost him. As his soft tyres wore quickly, he lost time as he pitted and he never really got going again. Progress in qualifying but a disappointing result all in all.

Kevin Magnussen - 4

Haas had a really tough time in France and their struggles continue. It wasn't as bad for Magnussen as Canada was, but it definitely could have been better. Racing at the back is not where the Dane wants to be but he could only beat his teammate and the Williams on this occasion.

Robert Kubica - 6

For the first time, this season Robert Kubica has beaten his teammate. Still, way off the pace in the Williams and struggling in general, this victory of sorts will boost the Pole's confidence as rumours regarding his future continue to swirl. Progress if nothing else.

George Russell - 6

Not much the Brit can do really as he was the last finisher at the French Grand Prix. For the first time, he was beaten by his teammate but Russell was still quicker over one lap. 

Romain Grosjean - 3

As home races go, they don't get much worse than this French Grand Prix for Romain Grosjean. Starting P16 from qualifying the Frenchman was forced to retire on lap 44 of the race although he did concede it was the right choice. He remains the lowest-placed driver to score points this season and the only retiree from his home Grand Prix, tough times for Grosjean.
