Sebastian Vettel has admitted he was hoping the Ferrari team could show the stewards new evidence but is set to leave the whole Canada saga in the past, as the French Grand Prix edges nearer.

Ferrari's appeal against the five-second penalty at the Canadian Grand Prix was rejected by the stewards, who gathered at the Paul Ricard circuit almost two weeks after the incident itself. Their appeal included the analysis of Karun Chandhok from Sky Sports, but the stewards stuck by their decision for the incident which saw Vettel run off the track and almost forcing Hamilton into the wall.

Matti Binotto had earlier expressed his dissatisfaction and Vettel admitted his frustration at the decision but was not surprised.

“No, this was not a surprise. The rules have so many pages, you can always find a passage in them that connects to a decision made," Vettel told the media.

"It may be clear that we have a different opinion than the race management."

Despite his frustration, Vettel has vowed to move on from the incident that has dominated the last two weeks.

"We thought we might be able to achieve something with new evidence, but now we have to leave it behind."
