Romain Grosjean believes Formula 1 should model its tyre situation around Moto GP, with the competition having an experimental tyre compound that alters as the season progresses.

Pirelli, F1's official tyre supplier, elects five compounds for the whole season and each team is allowed to pick three of the five for each grand prix - with the rule being that two of the three compounds have to be used at some point throughout the weekend.

After the 2018 season, there was multiple complaints about the state of the tyres. So, Pirelli made the tyres thinner by 0.4mm to try and eradicate the blistering and lessen the chances of the tyres overheating.

However, this has also landed Pirelli in some criticism, as it may have handed an advantage to leaders Mercedes and has also made other teams' performance too unpredictable as the tyres are too tricky to warm up.

Haas driver Grosjean thinks F1 should take inspiration from Moto GP with a prototype tyre: "It's one thing I learned about Moto GP which I find amazing," the Frenchman said to Motorsport.com

"I'm good friends with Fabio Quartararo, and I asked him, 'Why do you use the hard tyre in qualifying when you have the hard, medium and soft'? He says that at every race the hard tyre is a prototype tyre, new technology that they (Michelin) bring.

"It doesn't mean it is the hardest of the compounds, but it's a new technology. We know we don't have the best product here, why don't we try that?"
