Max Verstappen says he is hopeful of challenging at the front of the field at the French Grand Prix in just over a weeks time.

The Dutchman was able to recover from a surprise knock-out in Q2 for the Canadian Grand Prix to finish a very respectable fifth, behind Mercedes and Ferrari.

Ahead of the French Grand Prix, Verstappen says the team did well to get the result it did, adding that he was able to extract the maximum from his Red Bull car.

"It was a good race for us, we had a perfect strategy and achieved a good result," Verstappen is quoted by Formule1.

“In Canada, we achieved the maximum result, we work hard on all fronts to improve ourselves. I feel comfortable in the car, I hope we are able to challenge the forefront.”

So far in 2019, Verstappen has largely out-performed his car, and sits in fourth position in the driver's standings ahead of the second Ferrari of Charles Leclerc.

Having scored two podium finishes this season in Australia and Spain, the Dutchman will be keen to add to his tally as the European stint of the season resumes.
