Ferrari set to withdraw appeal as Binotto seeks clarification
The BBC are reporting that Ferrari are set to officially withdraw their appeal for the decision to hand Sebastian Vettel a five-second penalty at the Canadian Grand Prix.
Vettel was handed a five-second penalty at the Canadian Grand Prix after he was alleged to have returned to the track in an unsafe manner on lap 48, after running onto the grass at turn four. The decision was costly for the German who was unable to build a big enough gap to Lewis Hamilton to hold on to first place.
BBC Sport are reporting that Ferrari have told the FIA that they are planning to withdraw their appeal after initially planning to contest it. Ferrari have a deadline of 22:00 British Summertime to confirm their decision.
Mattia Binotto gave some clarification of their decision telling TG2 in an exclusive interview: "For our part, considering the images and data we have available, we are convinced that there were no misconduct, but Sebastian made a mistake on the way out but I think he only tried to recover the car, slow down, and get back on track more safely."
"For our part, we are collecting all available data, trying to bring new elements to eventually have a different decision. We will see in what form and in what way, but surely we are working hard."
