Daniel Ricciardo is confident that Renault's straight-line speed is much improved compared to what it was earlier in the season following their resurgent result at the Canadian Grand Prix.

Ricciardo finished sixth at the race in Montreal and qualified in fourth in what was his best result of the season so far. His teammate, Nico Hulkenberg finished one place back in seventh marking a considerable improvement on the rest of the season.

Renault have struggled with reliability all season with the team suffering five retirements between their two drivers. However, after bringing some changes to the car's engine they have fixed those issues and are now focused on building some speed.

Ricciardo is pleased with the progress the team have made and highlighted their straight-line speed and his battle with Valtteri Bottas as positives.

“We’ve certainly got some momentum now and the last few weekends have been stronger,” said Ricciardo as quoted by Grand Prix 247.

“I think the encouraging thing was for sure a few elbows out with Bottas.

“Our straight-line speed is certainly much more competitive in race conditions. A lot of positives to take.

“We’ll see how we go in France. (Hopefully) for the Renault home fans, we can pull off another good one."
