McLaren driver Carlos Sainz was left angry with the final result of the Canadian Grand Prix, as the Spaniard was forced to pit early as debris was blocking his brake duct, throwing away a promising race.

Sainz qualified in P8 but was dealt a three-place grid penalty for blocking Alexander Albon, meaning he started in P11.

He set himself up nicely a the start of the race but was left frustrated as he needed to come in for a pitstop after just three laps, as his brake ducts were being blocked and needed to be cleared out.

This meant Sainz had to run extremely long on his hard tyres. He got picked off twice in the space of a few corners by both Lance Stroll and Daniil Kvyat, dropping outside of the points and finishing 11th, the place where he started from. A frustrating day at the office.

"We started well, I was about to pass Kvyat and start the comeback, but we had to stop in the third lap," the Spaniard analysed to Motorsport.com.

"We tried a very long stint on the hard tyre, having to attack cars, then defend, and then attack again so we couldn't nurse the tyres. We had to come back and in the end, we paid for it. Those last five or 10 laps were too long for us."

Even though he started the race outside of the points and eventually finished in the same position where he started, Sainz was left disappointed by the result.

"I'm very disappointed to not finish in the points. But that's racing. I'm angry with the final result, because we would've finished in the points if not for these problems, but it is what it is. We almost did it, we did the best we could, but it wasn't enough."

Sainz still leads the midfield in the drivers' standings, sitting pretty in seventh place.
