Valtteri Bottas says he is not giving in at a track where overtaking is possible, despite his awful Q3 session, which saw a spin and a messy lap, leading to him only being able to manage sixth position for Sunday's Canadian Grand Prix.

Bottas, who has been in such great form this season, taking the fight to teammate Lewis Hamilton on multiple occasions, and is now trailing by 17 points following the Monaco Grand Prix.

However, his Q3 session in Montreal was a nightmare, as he nearly hit the wall with a spin on his first lap and then followed it up with a scruffy second lap.

Bottas will start behind the Renault of Daniel Ricciardo and the Red Bull of Pierre Gasly, but says that he won't give up just yet.

Bottas told Sky Sports: "I’m not sure what happened, the first run was my mistake, I had a snap out of Turn Two I was trying to minimise the time and trying to keep going then I was on the back foot but I was still confident I could do it, but it was a messy lap.

"I need to have a look in the mirror and find out what went wrong. For sure you can overtake here so let's see what difference there is in strategy. There’s no point in giving up on anything tomorrow this is racing, for sure I’m not going to give up."
