Max Verstappen says Red Bull is not yet at the level to win races again in Formula 1. While the outfit had a strong race in Monaco, Verstappen believes it is behind other teams in 2019.

Verstappen has impressed many already this season, scoring strong race results and hassling Lewis Hamilton for first at the Monaco Grand Prix last time out.

But for his five-second penalty for contact with Valtteri Bottas in the pitlane, it may very well have been a race he would have won had he passed Hamilton.

However, despite the consistency displayed by a more mature Verstappen compared to last season, the Dutchman does not yet believe his team is ready to regularly challenge for race wins this season.

“I think it’s been going quite well. We’ve maximised our results so far, so we can’t really complain," he told Red Bull's official website.

“Of course we always want to win and we’re not in a winning position yet, but we’re all pushing really hard to be able to do that soon.

“The team is third in the championship and we are just maximising our potential, which is always very positive, as most of the time there’s always something that goes wrong.

“It’s never that easy to nail everything, so I think we are doing quite well.”

The Red Bull man has achieved results his car is not apparently capable of, beating one of if not both Ferrari's on a semi-regular basis so far in 2019. The Canadian Grand Prix will present a new test however, with performance based largely around the power units.
