Fernando Alonso has ruled out any chance of him entering IndyCar for a full season in 2020 as he still chases motorsport’s triple crown.

The Spaniard has said that if he is to go for the Indy 500 again, he will do it as a one off, as he has in 2017 and 2019.

2017’s effort was encouraging for Alonso, but this year’s effort was nothing short of a disaster.

In an uncompetitive McLaren, Alonso failed to qualify, setting only the fourth fastest time in the back row shootout.

Questions are still being asked over Alonso’s racing future but he was denied that it will be in full time IndyCar.

He’s quoted by Motorsport.com as saying: "If I do Indy, a one-off will be the approach again.

"To do the full season at the moment is too much of a commitment in terms of races.

"If you go there you should be in contention; you are not a tourist."

The two time F1 world champion has also ruled out doing a few IndyCar races before the Indy500, adding: "To do four or five races as preparation doesn't make sense because Indy is the first oval of the championship, there are no other oval races you can do before to prepare — a one-off is enough, I think."
