Frederic Vasseur believes Alfa Romeo f***ed up Monaco weekend in Q2

Alfa Romeo had a positive Thursday in Monaco by pushing for the 'best of the rest' places. But that all stopped on Saturday afternoon as team boss Frederic Vasseur believes they "f***ed up" the weekend in Q2.

Antonio Giovinazzi took 6th place in FP3, but the high didn't last long. In qualifying, the Alfa Romeo cars ended up in P14 and P15. On Sunday, both drivers were beaten by at least one Williams driver. Giovinazzi was beaten by both Robert Kubica and George Russell.

Vasseur tried to make sense of their sudden downfall in a conversation with motorsport.com.

"I think that we lost the race in Q2. The pace was there in FP1, FP2 and FP3, we were consistently in the top 10," Vasseur said.

"Then between Q1 and Q2 we lost something, we were slower in Q2 compared to Q1, and considering the track improvement and so on, it’s just unrealistic. Then we f***ed up the weekend.

“We have to do a proper analysis of what we did well or wrong, but the pace was there at some stages of the weekend. We have to build up to the next one on this basis."

The Monaco track made this even more painful for those inside the Alfa Romeo garage. The streets of Monte Carlo make it hard for overtaking and any poor qualifying result is hard to recover from.
