Pierre Gasly has insisted that his Red Bull teammate, Max Verstappen is a good marker for him to strive for, given his early season consistency which has seen him get two podiums.

Gasly has had a frustrating start to life at Red Bull where he has failed to make Q3 in his first two races as well as retiring in Baku. Meanwhile, Verstappen has achieved podiums in Australia and Spain and has never been beaten this season by both of the Ferrari drivers.

Despite his difficulties, Christian Horner has recently defended the Frenchman and now Gasly has admitted his teammate is something to strive for.

“I’ve always known he’s one of the most talented guys, but I must say he is really good at extracting the maximum from the package at the moment,” Gasly said in an interview on crash.net.

“For me, it’s really good to be next to him at the moment, use his experience with the team, with Red Bull Racing, with the car, to see a bit what he does to extract the maximum from the package that we have.

“He has been driving really well, really consistently, so it’s definitely a good benchmark to me.”
