It has been a struggle for Renault so far this season, but Daniel Ricciardo has insisted he knew results weren’t going to come straight away following his move from Red Bull in the off-season.

Ricciardo has failed to finish the race in three of the five races this season and has only scored points on one occasion, in China. The luck hasn’t been much better for other Renault engine drivers with a total of nine DNFs between the McLaren and Renault teams.

Despite the struggles, they have faced Ricciardo is adamant he wasn’t expecting results immediately.

“I knew that we were not going to start off competing for podiums straight away,” the Australian said in an interview on crash.net.

“So I expected a struggle somewhat and expected work needed to be done.”

However, Ricciardo admitted he’s been happy when he’s made a mistake but still wants the team to be quicker.

“More personally I’ve felt happy when I’ve made mistakes, more from my side I have not always been that happy with myself.

“But where the team stands, I wish we were quicker but I still see a lot of areas where we can keep improving."
