Following Sunday's disaster, Ferrari now trails by 96 points in the Formula 1 constructors' championship. They only finished last year's fight 84 points behind.

Despite this mountain, team principal Mattia Binotto insists Ferrari will "never give up" on the title. The Italian team brought plenty of upgrades to Spain, making the defeat much worse.

Somehow, Ferrari has to turn it around. And with Mercedes producing five consecutive one-two results, Ferrari is left hoping for a couple of DNFs.

"The season is still long and we will never give up. There is much to learn from here. We are disappointed about the race and the performance during the weekend. Our hope was to deliver more," Binotto said on Sunday evening.

"We brought some upgrades, aero and engine, here and we were expecting to somehow be in the fight but it has not been the case."

Ferrari dominated proceedings around Barcelona just ten weeks ago. The upgrades might have helped lift them back to at least level with Mercedes. But still, they were about a second down. Despite this, Binotto believes the upgrades worked well.

"The upgrades worked well, power-wise, straight-line speed we are good enough, but certainly we have some weaknesses on the car that were highlighted this weekend. It's up to us to assess and to improve in the future. It can only make us stronger in the future," Binotto added.
