Lando Norris believes that McLaren's performance at the Spanish Grand Prix will be proof of whether or not the team has made real progress in 2019.

Currently sitting in fourth position behind the top three teams in Formula 1 as best of the rest, McLaren looks to be one of the top midfield contenders after a period of turmoil with the Honda reunion falling apart.

However, in 2019 with Norris and Carlos Sainz now at the team in a freshening up of the squad, McLaren appears to be back on track in its journey to the sharp end of F1.

Rookie Norris believes that returning to the location of winter testing this weekend will indicate whether the team has made genuine progress from last season.

"I'm looking forward to starting the European season; there a few circuits coming up that I've raced at before, including Barcelona," he said.

"Racing at tracks I know helps me hit the ground running when preparing for the weekend. It only feels like yesterday that we were in Spain for pre-season testing.

"Heading back to where we first tested the car should give us a good indication of the car's performance and the areas we need to improve.

"It's also good to have the Brand Centre back for the European races, it really adds to the atmosphere in the paddock."
