McLaren CEO Zak Brown insists that McLaren is on the right path in its road to recovery.

The British team has endured a tough period since its switch to Honda and subsequent move to Renault but Brown believes progress is being made.

Having switched to Renault power for 2019, McLaren has outperformed its power unit supplier and sits best of the rest behind the top three teams in fourth position and ahead of Renault by six points.

Ahead of Carlos Sainz's home race in Spain, Brown told El Confidencial that the team was making the right strides forward in 2019 in its climb back up to the top ranks of Formula 1.

“We have clearly built a better racing car this year," Brown said.

“Last year we talked about the beginning of the road to recovery, but we ended the year with the feeling that we were less competitive than at the beginning of the season.

“Now we feel that we have started that road to recovery and that we are more competitive.

“There is still a long way to go, but we are satisfied with the hard work that everyone is doing.”
