Reigning Formula 3 champion Mick Schumacher thinks he could've done better in the Formula 2 sprint race in Baku, despite him gaining 14 places to finish in fifth place.

The Prema driver started in 19th in Sunday's sprint race, but ended up well within the points, passing his teammate Sean Gelael on the last lap for a credible P5 finish.

After spinning in the feature race and stalling his car, the 20-year-old Schumacher was happy with the result in the sprint race, although he thought there was more to be gained.

"Coming from where I started we can say it has been a positive race," he told Autosport.

"The start was very good even though I was conservative as I thought there might be some chaos which actually happened.

"We can be happy with P5 and we also missed the fastest lap by just four thousands of a second.

"We didn't maximise it in race one, but we learned from that and now we will try to make another step forward.

"We had the potential to go further forward."

After a solid few races and the fifth place on the streets of Baku, Schumacher now lies ninth in the Formula 2 standings.
