Haas didn't have an ideal Friday. Kevin Magnussen finished in 11th, while Romain Grosjean could only manage 16th in FP2. Team boss Guenther Steiner admits he doesn't know where his team sit moving into Saturday.

“It was a strange day today. We have a lot of data to go through to see what we can learn from it," Steiner said.

“I wouldn't call it a lottery, but I don't think there's a clear pattern for tomorrow like we're used to from other Fridays. I have no idea where we are at the moment."

The first practice session was brought to an end early after a dramatic series of unfortunate events. Grosjean looks back at this and wishes he could have completed the session.

“I didn't really get the confidence I wanted in the car, so there is definitely work to be done for tomorrow. It's a nice challenge, but it would have been better if we had received a two-hour session today and an extra set of tires," Grosjean said.

Magnussen reflected on the day's practice with a little bit more positivity. “Many yellow and red flags, as usual here in Baku, but we have not caused any. For us it went as smoothly as it can go, it was not a bad Friday. Unfortunately, our long run was not that long, but at least we got a feel for the soft tire," K-dog said.
