Red Bull boss Christian Horner is pleased with Max Verstappen’s start to the season, which has seen him take hold of third place in the drivers’ championship, ahead of both Ferrari drivers, Sebastian Vettel and Charles Leclerc.

Despite being more than 18 months younger than his new teammate Pierre Gasly, Verstappen is expected to be the leader and has shown some great pace in the Honda powered car to record finishes of third, fourth and fourth ahead of this weekend’s race in Azerbaijan.

"I think Max has matured a lot," Horner said. "He was unlucky not to be on the podium in Bahrain. In China he had the opportunity to fight Vettel but still chose to close fourth. He made a good choice, a mature choice, and we have to accumulate points at this stage of the season.

“The road ahead is still long, so it is important not to lose too much ground from the best in this phase of the year.”
