Sebastian Vettel has revealed Ferrari are about to face a crucial few weeks, with the team needing to establish how to further develop the SF90 car over the middle part of the 2019 Formula 1 season.

Ferrari were the team to come out of pre-season testing in Barcelona with the dominant car and the whole F1 world were expecting a stronger showing from the Maranello team in the opening three races.

However, it's been a dominant start from Mercedes - who have recorded three successive one-two finishes for the first time at the start of the season.

Former Mercedes driver and world champion, Nico Rosberg has suggested that Ferrari's aerodynamic philosophy is compromising the performance around corners too much, with the focus too heavy on straightline speed.

Vettel has admitted that Ferrari must swiftly make a firm decision on what they want to do to its SF90.

"We have a very strong car, there's nothing wrong with it, but I think we're not able to yet put it in the window," Vettel said to Motorsport.com. "Especially for myself, here and there.

"I'm not entirely happy yet compared to where we started off. Obviously the three tracks we've been to now are quite different. The conditions we had are different. But I think we start to see a sort of pattern and, especially throughout a grand prix distance, understand what we need, what I need, to really unlock this car.

"These couple of weeks and the next weeks will be very important for us to understand where we need to go in the next few months."
