Daniel Ricciardo has expressed he knows what he’s doing at Renault, despite an indifferent start to the season which has yielded just six points from the opening three races.

Ricciardo finally scored points at the third time of asking when he finished seventh at the Chinese Grand Prix following retirement in Bahrain and his home Grand Prix in Australia. Many questioned Ricciardo’s decision to turn down a new deal at Red Bull and move to Renault but the Australian believes he knows what he’s doing after finally getting off the ground.

In an interview on motorsport.com Ricciardo said: “The most important thing is that I know what I am doing.

“People sometimes get impatient, but I don't worry as long as I know I'm on the right track.

“Sometimes you need some patience for that, it's all going well.

“I didn't do anything that made me forget how to drive, I remember it all, but it just takes a little patience.

“When you are at a high level in sports, people always expect you to perform every day.

“I'm not mad about that. I do understand it,” added the former Red Bull driver.
