Red Bull Racing team principal Christian Horner was left very disappointed that his driver Max Verstappen couldn't get a second try in Q3 during the Chinese Grand Prix qualifying, as the Dutchman's run-up was impeded by other drivers.

In the final corners of everyone's outlap, Verstappen held back as Sebastian Vettel overtook him on his outside. However, as he tried to get back on the racing line, both Renault cars overtook him as well, leaving him without space or time to get a good run-up into the final corner and onto the main straight.

"A bit of jockeying position just before the start of the lap," Horner explained to Sky Sports F1.

"Max was in a good position, Seb [Vettel] passed him round the outside so he's hung back and then a Renault has passed him."

It meant no second run in Q3 for Verstappen and it also means a P5 start for the Dutchman, where Horner thinks he could've qualified higher if given a proper chance.

"It was a shame because I think we could have made the second row today."
