Honda boss Toyoharu Tanabe has said that there is room for improvement and that he is not yet satisfied with how the engine is performing. Honda supplies both Red Bull and Toro Rosso with their power unit and had relative success by getting Max Verstappen on the podium in Australia. They will hope to get more podiums throughout the year and push Ferrari and Mercedes.

“So far we have started this season with a reasonable performance and reasonable results," Tanabe said to GPToday as quoted by Planet F1. “But reasonable doesn’t mean fantastic, and we see clearly there is still a big gap to the top [teams] and us.

“We really need to push to improve our performance, to compete [against] our competitors. We understand it is not easy to improve the performance immediately, but we’ll keep pushing.”

“I won’t tell you a specific number, but you can see the gap on the track. We can get double the data from two teams compared to one, and then there are some differences in the team’s philosophy and way of working.”

Honda is now supplying two teams in Formula 1 with engines and they believe that this can help them improve the performance of their engine.

“Not only twice, but more than twice we can receive information, and we have four different drivers with different characteristics of driving. It’s very hard to tell, but two teams are definitely helping our development.”

Honda will hope that their reliability continues and that they can get on the podium this weekend.
