Alonso unsure McLaren can win Indy500

Fernando Alonso is unsure whether his McLaren team will be able to win next month's Indy500, as he pushes for the triple crown.

Alonso retired from Formula 1 at the end of last season, as he pushes for the 'triple crown', if he can somehow win the Indy500 crown.

In Texas last week, the Spaniard tested his McLaren - painted in orange and blue, like the F1 livery. Alonso spoke to Marca, and said the car was "trickier" to drive than he remembers.

"I guess it's going to be challenging, especially this year as I am not with the Andretti environment with their support. It's all by ourselves this year," Alonso said.

McLaren boss Zak Brown wanted Alonso's 2019 bid to be really competitive - putting former Force India boss Bob Fernley in charge of the Indy 500 team.

"I think it is quite important to set up everything as a team," Alonso continued. "Who does what in the team, also the pit-wall, the facility is completely new for everyone and to try to solve as many problems here and at the test."

Despite the pessimistic approach from the two-time F1 world champion, Alonso is still targetting a victory.

"Absolutely, that's the goal," Alonso confirmed. "After winning Le Mans, only the 500 is missing."
