Seven-time world champion Michael Schumacher wasn't just the most accomplished Formula 1 driver of all time and the best driver of his generation, he was also best paid Formula 1 driver of all time. Lewis Hamilton, however, has broken that record according to Forbes, as the Brit has surpassed Schumi by $25 million.

In his 21-year career, Schumacher accrued a whopping $464 million, according to Forbes. He was by far the wealthiest F1 driver ever at that point, but not anymore. Forbes has estimated Hamilton's earnings at $489 million, 25 more than der Rekordmeister.

An important note to this is that these numbers are only based on salaries. Personal sponsors and investments aren't calculated. In that field, Hamilton hasn't passed Schumi yet, as the German is worth a cool $800 million.

Hamilton is coming for him, though. The five-time champion rakes in million with personal sponsors like Tommy Hilfiger and Monster Energy. He's also the highest-earning driver in F1 when it comes to salary, as he has a contract with a salary of $40 million a year.
