Steiner "amazed" rather than "upset" over Haas' pace

Haas boss Guenther Steiner has claimed he is "amazed" rather than "upset" over the American team's sudden loss of pace that was demonstrated in Bahrain on Sunday.

The side had strong hopes to continue its positive start on Sunday, after some progress made during qualifying and free practice sessions. However, Haas driver Kevin Magnussen was struggling with his tyres and started to fall down the order, drastically. 

Romain Grosjean saw his race ended rather unfortunately by Racing Point driver Lance Stroll following a collision around the second corner.

Steiner reflected on a very difficult race for the American outfit and had no explanation regarding the team's sudden loss of pace.

"We have no idea what happened, so I actually should be more down," Steiner explained to Motorsport.com. "But I am not even upset, because I just... I am just amazed.

"More amazed than upset, because after the qualifying we had, and then ending up with the race and not knowing why the pace was just lost overnight, it's so weird."

The testing in Bahrain gives a chance for Haas to look more at the issue in its car, something Steiner is grateful for: "We can test here on Tuesday and Wednesday, so at least we have got a chance to try to find out what is happening and to get a good picture of it.

"On the other side, nobody overtook us in the points standings, so you know at least the damage wasn't too big. I mean by no means I am happy with the damage, but the damage isn't too big."
