Former Formula 1 driver and current Sky Sports F1 pundit Martin Brundle has warned Sebastian Vettel that it won't be long until his teammate Charles Leclerc will be top dog at Ferrari, as the youngster proved much stronger than Vettel in Bahrain.

Putting his car on pole position and driving away from the field after an iffy start, Leclerc looked sure to get his maiden Formula 1 win at Sakhir. Vettel followed in second place, having temporarily taken the lead at the start for a few laps.

Vettel was eventually chased down by the Mercedes of Lewis Hamilton, though, and overtaken. As that happened, Vettel lost the rear of his SF90 and spun. On his way to the pitlane for new rubber, vibrations on his car took his front wing clean off. He had to settle for a P5-finish.

Fellow German Nico Rosberg couldn't believe it.

"Vettel is continuing what he was doing last year, messing it up again, spinning around again in a battle," the 2016 world champion told Sky F1.

"It's unbelievable that it keeps on happening to him."

Rosberg's colleague Martin Brundle was a bit more nuanced but also warned Vettel that Leclerc could be top dog at Ferrari sooner rather than later.

"There will be moments on rainy days or challenging days when Sebastian Vettel's experience might just pay off. But it won't be long until Leclerc is the main man there."
