Helmut Marko blames high tyre wear for Pierre Gasly's poor Australia

Helmut Marko has said that "a chain of circumstances" can be blamed for why Pierre Gasly struggled to perform at the Australian Grand Prix. The Austrian Red Bull advisor believes that Gasly has not yet got used to the tyres and has said that his tyre wear is too high. Red Bull is fully backing the Frenchman to develop and get better and hope he does well this weekend. 

"He was unsure and overcautious," said Marko to Motorsport-Total.com."Then in qualifying, the mishap happened that the evolution of the track was much more concise than expected,"

"Then he got into trouble charging, and we have a new race engineer at Gasly because Simon Rennie, who has been working on the Ricciardo car so far, does not want to travel anymore, he's now doing simulation stories internally."

"Gasly's shortcoming was that he had too much tire wear, meaning he had to deliberately take out speed, otherwise the tires would have suffered too much," confirmed Marko. "Speed is what he can do, but he needs too many tires and is too aggressive, but we are still positive and believe he can do it."

"Due to the situation described above, it was important to us that Gasly manage the car accident-free, he has to settle in. And with Verstappen, we have certainly one of the fastest speeds of pure speed," said the Austrian.

Galsy will hope that he can manage the tyres better at Bahrain and that he can try to finish the race higher up the grid.
